Acute isolated myocarditis in newborn infants.

چکیده
Under such names as isolated myocarditis (Sellentin, 1904), Fiedler's myocarditis (Fiedler, 1899), and myocarditis pemiciosa (Boikan, 1931), a rare myocardial disorder of unknown origin has been described which is characterized by progressive heart failure ending fatally after a course lasting weeks or months. In still rarer cases the duration of the illness is measured in days or hours. No age period is exempt from either form of the disease but the fulminating variety is perhaps commoner in young patients. Three cases occurring as early as the neonatal period have already been described. One was an infant aged 6 months (Singer, 1932), the others were newborn babies 9 and 5 days old respectively (Lind and Hultquist, 1949). To this small group the present report adds two other cases. Case 1, a boy, aged 4 weeks, was seen in October, 1950, and case 2, also a boy and aged 1 week, was seen a year later in October, 1951. Because these young patients succumbed so quickly to the disease an unusually early type of myocardial lesion was preserved for examination. Particular interest therefore attaches to the histological findings in the cases described below.

Introduction Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection can present with a variety of manifestation. Case Report Here we present a case of a 7 year- old immunocompetent girl who came with acute abdominal pain , had echocardiographic evidence of myocardial dysfunction and finally was diagnosed as a case of serologically proven acute EBV infection. متن کاملHuman parvovirus B19 infection in infancy associated with acute and chronic lymphocytic myocarditis and high cytokine levels: report of 3 cases and review.
Human parvovirus B19 infection is occasionally associated with acute lymphocytic myocarditis (ALM). Three infants with B19 virus-associated ALM were followed up clinically, histologically, and immunovirologically. Each infant had B19 virus DNA in the blood or B19 virus-specific IgM antibodies. Two infants with postnatal infection recovered after immunosuppressive therapy. The third infant with ...
متن کاملRight Ventricular Myocardial Ischemia with Arrhythmia in an Asphyxiated Newborn
Background Infant and neonatal myocardial infarction (MI) has been described in association with congenital heart disease, coronary artery abnormalities, myocarditis, and tumors. MI in the perinatal period in a structurally normal heart and with ventricular arrhythmia as a presenting feature has not been thoroughly described. Published case reports describe treatment methods extrapolated from a...
متن کاملAcute bilirubin encephalopathy in healthy term neonates requiring exchange transfusion
Intruduction: There is a growing concern about an increasing bilirubin-induced neurological dysfunction (BIND) in healthy term neonates with no evidence of hemolytic disease or other risk factors. This study was done to determine the incidence of BIND in otherwise healthy, breast-fed newborn term infants without hemolysis who underwent exchange transfusion. Methods: This study was conducted i...
متن کاملMyocarditis and Meningitis during Early Sepsis in a Neonate with Streptococcus pseudopneumoniae: A Case Report
Although myocarditis is uncommon in neonates, a wide variety of infectious pathogens can result in myocarditis, including viruses, bacteria, rickettsia, fungi, and protozoa. Viruses are most often the infectious disease found to cause acute myocarditis. On the other hand, bacterial myocarditis (BM) is an unusual cause of infectious myocarditis. BM is commonly seen in the context of sepsis or as...
